CHICAGO – The NC State women's cross country team continued its dominant start to the season with another team victory at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Friday, while the men's squad earned an 11th-place finish.
Senior Hannah Gapes once again led the Pack, claiming her second individual title with a time of 19:19.69. Much like at the adidas XC Challenge, Bethany Michalak followed closely, crossing second (19:34.83).
Brooke Rauber finished ninth (19:58.97), and freshman Sadie Engelhardt, making her official collegiate debut for NC State, impressed with a 10th-place finish (20:00.18). Together, the quartet gave the Wolfpack four top-10 finishers to seal the team title. Overall, nine of the ten women ran personal bests.
On the men's side, NC State totaled 263 points for 11th place. Noah Valyo paced the group with a 25th-place finish in 24:06.11, followed by Luke Wiley, who clocked 24:13.18 for 28th.
Meanwhile, in Greenville, N.C., seven Wolfpack runners competed at the Dill Family Foundation Invitational. Caroline Murrell led the way, taking second overall and first for NC State with a personal-best of 21:16.19.
