BLACKSBURG, VA. - The NC State Women's Cross Country team will bring another championship title back to Raleigh after reigning victorious on Friday, capturing its 30th ACC team title, and ninth ACC Championship in the past 10 years. Behind a strong team effort, the Wolfpack women secured the title with 65 points in the 6k, while the Wolfpack men finished 12th in the 8k with 333 points.
The victory marks the 11th ACC team title under head coach Laurie Henes.
Under clear skies and crisp autumn weather, the women took the starting line ready to carry their crown. Leading the charge from start to finish was fifth-year runner Hannah Gapes, who extended her undefeated season in historic fashion. Gapes broke away early and never looked back, winning the individual title in 18:23.8, a decisive 30.2 seconds ahead of the runner-up. In doing so, she shattered the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course 6K record and became the eighth consecutive NC State athlete to win the ACC individual women's title.
The Wolfpack placed four runners in the top 20 to lock up the team trophy: Gapes (1st), Bethany Michalak (7th), Angelina Napoleon (14th), and Emily Wisniewski (20th), all earning All-ACC honors.
NC State now turns its attention to the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Friday, Nov. 13, in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
