NC State Drops Doubleheader On Day Two Of FAU Kickoff Classic

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The NC State softball team dropped its doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Florida Atlantic Kickoff Classic. The Wolfpack fell 5-3 in its game with Troy, and a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh propelled Michigan State to a 6-4 win over the Pack at the FAU Softball Stadium.

The Trojans improve to 2-2, the Spartans remain undefeated with a 3-0 record while the Wolfpack moves to 1-3 on the season.

Quick Hits vs. Troy
-NC State started off strong, scoring three runs in the first inning after Jessica Moore was walked with the bases loaded and Jade Caraway and Brittany Nimmo each hit a sacrifice fly.
-Troy managed to score a run in the top of the second, and tied the ball game in the fourth after two more batters crossed the plate.
-An RBI double by Katie Webb in the sixth gave the Trojans' a 5-3 advantage.
-A double in the sixth by Molly Hutchison with two outs on the board, and Caraway's one-out single along with Nimmo's two-out single in the seventh weren't enough for NC State as it suffered its second loss of the season.

Quick Hits vs. Michigan State
-Michigan State got off to a hot start with four runs in the first inning. The first run plated came from an RBI triple, which was followed by a sacrifice fly. After Sarah Gutknecht's double to center field, Ebonee Echols' triple down the left side brought in the third run. Kelcey Carassco's single to left center brought home the fourth run of the frame.
-NC State rallied back in the fourth inning to tie the game. With the bases loaded and one out, Alyssa Compton and Haley Finn drew back-to-back walks, cutting the deficit to two. With the bases still loaded and two outs in the frame, Tyler Ross's 2-RBI single evened the game at four runs apiece.
-With a runner on second, a walk-off home run in the seventh by MSU's Celeste Wood gave the Spartans the 6-4 victory.
