
Softball Holds Off Boston In Final Game Of FAU Kickoff Classic

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The NC State softball team finished its showing at the Florida Atlantic Kickoff Classic with a 9-6 win over Boston University on Sunday.Â
The Wolfpack improves to 2-3 while the Terriers move to 2-2 on the season.

-BU was the first to get on the board, plating two runs in the first two innings. An RBI single through the left side from BU's Alex Heinen allowed Moriah Connolly to cross the plate in the first. In the second inning, Jilee Schanda slapped an RBI double down the left field line and Gabi Martinez scored the second run.
-The Pack scored seven runs in the third to take a 7-2 lead. Macauley Prickett was the first to score on an RBI single by Jade Caraway, and Tyler Ross crossed the plate on a throwing error to tie the game.Â
-Caraway then scored on an RBI double by Molly Hutchison, who then scored after Cheyenne Balzer homered to right field to give NC State a 5-2 advantage.Â
-Back-to-back doubles to left field by Jessica Moore and Brittany Nimmo allowed Natalie Jones to add the sixth run to the board. Jones came in to pinch run for Moore at second base.Â
-With two outs in the frame, Alyssa Compton tallied the seventh run after Ross singled up the middle.Â
-BU scored two more runs in the top of the fourth. A one-out single by Martinez followed by an RBI single by Schanda allowed Alex Heinen to score BU's third run of the game. With one out still on the board, Connolly hit an RBI single to second base to allow Martinez to score her second run of the game and fourth of the matchup for BU.Â
-The Pack extended its lead in the bottom of the frame. With the bases loaded, Compton singled to left center to bring Hutchison home and make the score 8-4.
-Both teams put up one run apiece in the fifth. The Terriers scored on an RBI double by Heinen and Ross was able to score as Balzer just beat the throw on a potential inning-ending double play.
-BU tried to rally in the seventh, adding a run to make the score 9-6, but a fielder's choice to second base and a groundout to Compton ended the game.Â
-In the circle, freshman Peyton Silverman earned the first win of her career in the four innings she pitched. Harli Hubbard earned the save after coming in during the fifth and only giving up one run.
-Ross stole two bases in the game to give her four on the weekend and 41 in her career.Â

NC State will return to action Friday when it hosts No. 6 Michigan in its home opener and first game of the ACC/B1G Challenge. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Dail Softball Stadium.Â
