Wolfpack Tops #7 Cal for First ACC Win of Season

BERKELEY, Calif. - NC State women's tennis opened ACC play with a statement road win Friday afternoon, defeating No. 7 Cal, 4-1, at Hellman Tennis Complex.

The Wolfpack swept doubles to take an early 1-0 lead. Mia Slama and Lavinia Tanasie earned the first victory of the round with a 6-1 win on court three, followed by No. 29 Jasmine Conway and Anna Zyryanova, who clinched the point with a 6-4 victory on court two. Court one played out, where No. 4 Gabriella Broadfoot and Victoria Osuigwe completed the sweep with a 7-5 win.

Cal evened the match at 1-1 with a victory on court three in singles, but NC State quickly regained momentum. No. 106 Jasmine Conway put the Pack back in front with a straight set win on court six, 7-6(3), 6-4. Victoria Osuigwe followed with a 6-4, 7-6(2) win on court five to give NC State a 3-1 advantage. No. 28 Lavinia Tanasie sealed the match on court four, battling to a 6-1, 6-7(1), 6-0 victory to clinch the Wolfpack's first conference win of the season.

With the win, NC State has now captured its ACC opener in eight consecutive seasons. The Pack improves to four ranked wins this year, including two top 10 victories.
