Wolfpack Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader in Dominating Fashion

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team earned a pair of wins Saturday evening at Dail Softball Stadium, defeating Akron, 7-3, before run-ruling Providence for the second time, 15-1, to cap off the day.
The Pack used timely hitting and dominant pitching performances across both games, outscoring opponents 22-4 on the day.

How it Happened
- The Wolfpack struck first and never relinquished control, planting seven runs across the second and third innings to build the lead.
- In the second inning, junior Sarah Johnson launched her first homer of the season to bring home two and give the Pack the initial lead.
- NC State broke the game open in the third inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues and stringing together five runs on just as many hits to take a 7-0 lead.
- RBI singles from Morgen Talley, Ellington Whitaker, Maia Townsen highlighted the rally as the Pack jumped ahead, 7-0.
- Akron attempted to rally back with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, but the Wolfpack defense was on lock.
- In the circle, redshirt-junior Wynne Gore delivered a complete-game effort, allowing just five hits and three runs, none of which were earned.
- Townsend and Whitaker led the Pack with two hits each, in addition to an RBI each.

- The Wolfpack offense erupted in the nightcap, scoring in every innings and securing the win after a seven-run fourth inning.
- Despite Providence jumping out to an early 1-0 lead on a first-inning homer, the Pack immediately responded when sophomore Kendall Simmers smashed a two-run homer in the bottom half.
- NC State added four runs in the second inning, highlighted by a three-RBI double from freshman Lily Livingston before sophomore Taryn Massey blasted a two-run homer 212 feet to right centerfield in the third.
- The Pack sealed the run-rule victory with a seven-run fourth inning featuring five hits and aggressive base running.
- Freshman Morgen Talley was dominate in the circle, striking out a career high seven across five innings of work while allowing just three hits.
- Livingston led the squad offensively after going 3-for-3 with four-RBIs and two doubles.
- Talley earned her third win of the season in the circle after throwing all five innings and allowing just one run.
- The win moved the Pack to an even .500 on the season (7-7) and 4-0 on the week.
