CARLSBAD, Calif. – Marie Eline Madsen is set to compete at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship this weekend. The national championship stroke play competition is set to take place from Friday, May 16 to Monday, May 19 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Madsen will tee off in the afternoon wave on Friday off hole 1 at 5:02 p.m. Eastern Time and will be playing with Anna Davis from Auburn and Moa Svedenskiold from Houston. She will follow up play on Saturday with an 11:42 a.m. ET tee time off 10. The tee times will be determined in round three based off the current standings and the top 15 teams and top nine individuals from non-advancing teams will advance to the fourth round on Monday.
Omni La Costa is a 72-par, 6,330-yard course, and this marks the second consecutive year the national championship will be played at the venue in Carlsbad.
As the NCAA Charlottesville Regional Champion, Madsen advanced as an individual to the national championship. She goes into competition as the second-highest ranked individual among the six competing without their teams at No. 26 in the Scoreboard Powered by Clippd Rankings.
Madsen is coming off a stellar performance in her rookie campaign, having been named to the All-ACC Team. She has led the Pack in scoring average all season with a 70.97 clip along with 21 rounds at par or better and 11 rounds in the 60s. Madsen has two wins along with eight top 10 finishes and 11 top 20 showings in as many tournament appearances. She earned a spot to nationals by being the top individual from non-advancing teams at the NCAA Charlottesville Regional, carding a 5-under 208 (71-69-68).
The Viborg, Denmark native became the first NC State individual golfer to qualify for an NCAA Championship since 2008 when Lauren Doughtie became the first. Madsen is also representing NC State for the sixth time at this event, as the Pack have gone four times as a team and now twice with an individual representative.
