How it Happened
- The Pack opened the outing with hot bats. Michele Tarpey led off with a four pitch walk and Taylor Ensley followed with reaching base on a fielder's choice that allowed Tarpey to advance to second – she was ruled safe on an error by the Irish shortstop. With two on, Madison Inscoe also reached on a fielder's choice that would load the bases. With one out, Ellie Goins found a gap in the right side to single and bring two home to put NC State on the board 2-0. While MaKayla Marbury was at the plate, Goins attempted to steal second but was tagged out – Inscoe would score from third to put the Pack up 3-0.
- Notre Dame put six runs on the board in the bottom half of the first after two singles, a fielder's choice, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly allowed runners to score. With one out on the board and the Pack trailing by two, head coach Lindsay Leftwich brought in Kayla Fekel to replace Aisha Weixlmann in the circle.
- Hannah Goodwin led off the second inning with a single through the left side for the Wolfpack and Kaylee Lambrecht followed it up with a four pitch walk. Despite being down 0-2 in the count, Tori Ensley managed to work the count full and would end up being walked to load the bases for Tarpey. Tarpey popped up to first to mark the first out and Taylor Ensley would then reach base on fielder's choice – Goodwin was tagged out at the plate. With bases still loaded and two outs, Inscoe took the batter's box for a second time. After being down in the count 0-2, she took four straight balls to be walked and force Lambrecht home. The Pack ended the top of the second by adding one run to the board and leaving three on base.
- The Irish added three more runs in the bottom of the third after a homer by Karina Gaskins. With one out on the board, Rylee Wyman entered the circle for the Pack.
- The Pack attempted to rally in the top of the fifth as Taylor Ensley doubled to left center with two outs, but the efforts fell short as the Irish picked up the final out of the frame.
- Wyman ended the fifth inning with a huge strikeout to leave one stranded on base for Notre Dame.
- Tori Ensley led off the sixth with a walk after being hit by a pitch. The Irish defense got the next three batters out to end the inning and leave Ensley on first.
- The Pack struggled defensively throughout the afternoon as it recorded six errors.
- Fekel and Wyman each recorded a strikeout in their time in the circle.
- Goodwin, Goins, and Ta. Ensley all recorded one hit in the outing.
