LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 4 NC State women's tennis team completed its conference-opening weekend with a perfect record after defeating Louisville on the road, 5-2, on Sunday.
The win marks just the fourth time in program history the team has started ACC play 2-0 (1995, 1998, 2018). NC State moves to 15-2 on the season, and Louisville drops to 8-2.
In doubles, the Pack trailed early on all three courts, 2-1. Second-ranked Anna Rogers and Alana Smith would come back to take a 6-4 decision on court one over Jelena Vujanic and Rhea Verma. Courts two (Lexi Keberle and Lana Mavor) and three (Liz Norman and Marta Gonzalez-Ballbe) were unable to get the job done, dropping 6-3 and 6-4 decisions, respectively.
Sunday's match marked just the third dropped doubles point of the season.
Keberle continued her strong weekend after clinching Friday's match with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win over Jelena Vujanic on court three. Freshman Mavor gave NC State its first lead of the day, defeating Diana Wong on court six (6-2, 6-0). She has only needed two sets to claim victory in each of her last three singles matches.
Jaeda Daniel, competing on court four, continued the straight-set trend on her way to a 6-2, 6-3 win against Nikolina Jovic. Her win set up courts one, two or four to clinch the match.
No. 32 Rogers would close the deal for NC State with a 6-4, 7-5 decision on court two over Rhea Verma.
No. 16 Smith tacked on an extra point for the squad on court one after Rogers had already clinched the match.
