The Wolfpack will continue its preparation for the postseason as it competes at the Pre-Nationals meet in Madison, Wis. Saturday. The race will be held on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, which will serve as the site for the 2018 NCAA Championships in November.
This year's Pre-Nationals will have two evenly-seeded races per gender, with the Wolfpack set to have seven women and seven men running in the 'Cardinal' races. NC State can also run an additional five athletes per gender in the 'Gray' races.
The meet once again matches the Pack up against some of the nation's best competition as the postseason quickly approaches. Twenty ranked teams will be in action on the women's side of the meet, including the 13th-ranked Wolfpack women. NC State's 26th-ranked men will compete alongside 18 other teams who find themselves ranked in the latest national poll.
The Pre-Nationals meet is scheduled as follows, with all race times adjusted to EST:
PACK IN THE POLLS:
Both Wolfpack squads remained ranked in the top 30 of the NCAA Division I National Coaches' Polls, which were last released Oct. 3. NC State's women maintained their spot as the highest-ranked ACC team and checked in at No. 13, with the Pack men ranked No. 26.
LAST TIME OUT:
Saturday's race will mark the second time this season that the Wolfpack will see action at the Zimmer Championship Course. NC State opened its 2018 season two weeks ago by competing against a deep field of some of the nation's best programs at the Nuttycombe Invitational, which was also hosted by Wisconsin.
NC State's women placed 10th overall, led by a 23rd-place finish from junior Elly Henes. The Wolfpack men finished 16th as a team, and Ian Shanklin was the men's top performer, placing 45th with a collegiate-best 8K time.
UP NEXT:
NC State will begin its postseason at the 2018 ACC Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 26. The conference meet will be hosted by Boston College at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
