
Softball Heads To George Mason For Midweek Tilt

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team will travel to George Mason Tuesday for its second midweek matchup of the season. First pitch has been changed to 4 p.m. due to rain moving into the area. The contest will be held at the George Mason Softball Complex in Fairfax, Va.
Tuesday will mark the first time the programs have ever met, as the Wolfpack enters the contest with a 5-15 record and the Patriots hold a 1-10 ledger on the season.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State hosted the Homewood Suites By Hilton RDU/RTP Invitational at Dail Stadium last weekend, which was highlighted by a 10-6 win over Rutgers and a 7-6 victory over Lehigh.
PACK YOUTH
All nine underclassmen on the Pack's roster have made game appearances this year, and four of those players have started in at least 19 of the 20 games played.
FRESHMAN MAKING A #STATEMENT IMPACT
Freshman Jade Caraway has made a significant impact in the Pack's starting lineup, as she leads the team batting average (.443), on base percentage (.485), total bases (37), hits (27), triples (3) and at bats (61). She is listed among the top ten of the ACC in all six categories and is the only player in the conference with three triples.
TOP TEN IN THE ACC
-In addition to Caraway, three other Pack players rank among the top ten in the ACC in their respective categories.
-Senior Tyler Ross is ranked T7th in the conference in walks (10) and T6th in stolen bases (7). Both numbers are also team bests.
-Cheyenne Balzer sits at No. 2 in the ACC in putouts with 140, starting all 20 games at first base. She tallied 16 putouts in the Pack's second game versus Lehigh (March 4), which ties the second-highest in program history in a single game.
-Pitcher Peyton Silverman is sixth in the conference in strikeouts with 46, including striking out 16 batters looking.
HOME RUN TRACKER
-Last weekend in the team's home tournament three players hit the first home run of their careers – Caraway, Molly Martin and Haylee Kobziak.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
-NC State has recorded eight double plays this season, which ranks fourth in the conference. The Pack fielded two over the weekend against Rutgers (March 3) and in its first game against Fordham (March 4).
-As a team NC State has hit 22 doubles as Ross has tallied a team best five and Moore holds four.
ABOUT GEORGE MASON
-The Patriots' lone win of the season was on Feb. 24 as they defeated Buffalo 2-1. George Mason hosted the Patriot Classic last weekend and dropped two games apiece against Army and Fairfield as well as a matchup with Columbia.
-As a team they hold a .214 batting average and are averaging 1.81 runs per game.
-Freshman Sydnee Wells and sophomore Erin Calpin lead the team at the plate with .370 and .357 clips, respectively.
-In the circle sophomore Marina Vitalich holds a team best 1.25 earned-run average with a 1-3 record, while George Mason holds a combined ERA of 3.13.
