Softball Concludes Homewood Suites Invite With Loss To Fordham

RALEIGH - The NC State softball team concluded competition at the Homewood Suites By Hilton RDU/RTP Invitational with a 16-2 loss to Fordham on Sunday afternoon at Dail Stadium.
The Rams improve to 15-4 and the Wolfpack falls to 5-15 on the season.
Game Rewind
-Fordham took an early 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning as Madison Shaw hit a grand slam to center field.
-NC State tallied its two runs in the top of the second, as Haylee Kobziak and Molly Martin scored from second and third base on Tyler Ross's double to right center. Ross led the team at the plate as she was 2-for-2 on the day to go along with her two runs batted in.
-The Rams answered in the bottom of the frame with four more runs. Jessica Hughes doubled to left center to bring pinch runner Chelsea Skrepenak across the plate from second base, and Amy Van Hoven hit a 2-RBI single to bring in two more runs. A single by Shaw up the middle allowed Van Hoven to score the eighth run.
-In the fourth inning Mayer led off with a solo home run and Johnston followed with an RBI double to give Fordham a 10-2 advantage. Hughes and Sydney Canessa were both walked on loaded bases, and Lindsay Mayer hit a 3-RBI double to left center to extend the lead to 15-2. Shaw doubled up the middle to bring Mayer home and seal the win.
On Deck
NC State will return to action Tuesday, facing George Mason on the road. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at the George Mason Softball Complex.
