Pack Splits Doubleheader On Opening Day Of FAU Kickoff Classic

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The NC State softball team (1-1) opened its season on Friday at the Florida Atlantic Kickoff Classic, splitting its doubleheader with Bethune-Cookman and No. 23/23 Florida Atlantic.
The Wolfpack opened the day with a 4-2 win over the Wildcats, but fell to the Owls, 2-0, in their second game at the FAU Softball Stadium.
Quick Hits vs. Bethune-Cookman
-Bethune-Cookman started the game with two runs in the first two innings. NC State answered back in the bottom of the second as Jade Caraway scored from third base on an RBI single by Brittany Nimmo to narrow the deficit to 2-1.
-The Pack plated three runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 advantage after an RBI single by Molly Hutchison, sacrifice fly by Cheyenne Balzer and RBI double from Jessica Moore.
-The Wildcats couldn't manage to get on the board again as they had one hit apiece in the sixth and seventh innings.
-Brittany Nimmo threw the second complete game of her career to earn the win.
-Freshmen Caraway and Haley Finn made their collegiate debuts on the field, as they each made three trips to the plate and Caraway had two hits.
-Of her three appearances at the plate, Hutchison tallied as many hits in the season opener.
Quick Hits vs. Florida Atlantic
-Florida Atlantic's All-American Kylee Hanson turned in a strong pitching performance for the Owls to lead her team to a 2-0 victory. She threw a complete game and struck out 10 batters.
-Florida Atlantic jumped off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the first inning.
-Despite tallying four hits in the game, the Pack couldn't manage to get things going and remained scoreless.
-Peyton Silverman made her collegiate debut in the circle in the Pack's game against FAU, striking out eight batters in the six innings she threw.
On Deck
The Pack will return to action Saturday at the FAU Softball Stadium for a doubleheader with Troy at 11:15 a.m. and Michigan State at 1:30 p.m. Live stats will be available for both games.
