Wolfpack hits three homers in the contest

NC State moves to 21-26, while UNCG falls to 27-19.

The Rundown
- NC State raced out to a 4-0 advantage in the contest thanks to a four-run first inning.
- Sophomore Meredith Burroughs ignited the Wolfpack offense with a two-run home run to center field after Molly Hutchison walked.
- After Cheyenne Balzer drew a free pass to load the bases, Alyssa Compton was hit-by-pitch and Lana Van Dyken walked to plate the final two runs of the inning.
- The Wolfpack tacked on a run in the third after Brittany Nimmo smacked her third home run of her freshman campaign to put the Pack ahead, 5-0.
- UNCG countered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, before NC State erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning.
- Hutchison's double to left center plated the first run of the fourth, as Tyler Ross scored on the play to make it 6-2.
- A few batters later, Maggie Hawkins smacked a three-run homer to deep center field to extend the Wolfpack lead to 9-2.
- Ross legged out an infield single for an RBI and Hutchison doubled for the second time in the inning, this one a bases-clearing knock as NC State went up 13-2.
- UNCG tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fourth, but only managed to trim the deficit to 13-6.
- Van Dyken tallied an RBI single in the sixth and scored later in the frame on a wild pitch to extend the NC State lead to 15-6.

- Ross paced the Pack at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Hutchison was 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored, while Hawkins went 2-for-4 with three RBI and scored two runs.
- Compton also turned in a multi-hit outing with a pair of hits, scoring two runs with an RBI.
- Cheyenne Balzer, Burroughs, Nimmo and Van Dyken had one hit apiece in the contest.

- Nimmo started in the circle for NC State and pitched three innings to earn the win. She struck out three batters and allowed four runs.
- Harli Hubbard took over for her and tossed the final three innings of the game, allowing two runs and struck out a pair of batters.

- NC State turned a double play in the bottom of the sixth and continues to lead the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with 22 double plays turned.
- The Wolfpack and Spartans were meeting for the 16th time in the history of the programs, as NC State now owns a 13-3 advantage in the series.
- NC State earned its fourth run-rule victory of the season in the game.

NC State returns to action this weekend when it hosts Boston College at Dail Stadium. Saturday's doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. and Sunday's game will begin at noon.
