
Cross Country Men Finish Second, Women Fourth at ACC Championships

EARLYSVILLE, Va.- The NC State men’s and women’s cross country teams finished second and fourth, respectively, of 15 teams Friday morning at the 2014 ACC Cross Country Championships.
The men’s squad placed second with 90 points while women’s team earned a fourth place finish with 119 total points.
Both teams finished higher than opponents that were ranked in the top 30 of the USTFCCCA Division I National Coaches’ Poll. The 18th-ranked women bested No. 16 Syracuse, while the men defeated No. 13 Virginia, No. 15 Florida State and No. 28 UNC-Chapel Hill.
Sam Parsons finished fourth in the men’s individual standings with a career-best time of 23:25.6. Parsons topped his previous career-best time by more than 1:20. Joanna Thompson led the way for the Wolfpack women with a 10th place finish and a time of 20:25.3.
Parsons, Thompson and Graham Crawford each earned All-ACC honors at the championship. This marks the fourth honor in as many years for Thompson, while Crawford grabbed his third accolade in as many years. Parsons' 4th place finish earned him his first honor.
In the men’s 8k race, Syracuse took home the top team honors with 32 points while UNC women won the 6k race with 57 points in the team standings. Syracuse’s Martin Hehir and Boston College’s Liv Westphal earned the individual titles in their respective events.
