Pack Falls Late to #22/25 Arizona State in Midweek Matchup

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team erased an early deficit to pull even midway through Wednesday night's contest, but No. 22/25 Arizona State used a four-run seventh inning to break the tie and hand the Wolfpack a 7-3 loss at Dail Softball Stadium.

NC State moves to 19-14 on the season and 18-9 in non-conference action.

How It Happened

Arizona State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run from Katie Chester.
The Pack got on the board in the second after loading the bases, with MaKayla Marbury driving in a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.
The Sun Devils added a run in the third on a solo home run from Ryan Brown, extending the lead to 3-1.
NC State responded in the bottom half of the inning as Lily Livingston reached before Morgen Talley launched a two-run homer to tie the game at 3-3.
Both teams were held scoreless from the fourth through the sixth innings as pitching settled in on both sides.
Arizona State broke through in the seventh, taking advantage of a Wolfpack error to plate the go-ahead run and move in front 4-3.
The Sun Devils strung together three additional RBI plays in the inning to extend their lead to 7-3.
NC State was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh as Arizona State closed out the win.
