Pack Falls to Miami, 77-76

RALEIGH, N.C. – Miami scored the final eight points of the game to beat NC State, 77-76, Saturday afternoon inside the Lenovo Center.
With the loss, NC State falls to 18-8, 9-4 in the ACC while Miami improves to 20-5, 9-3 in the ACC.
A second chance lay-up with 1:07 left gave the Pack a 76-69 lead as NC State was on an 11-0 run that had started after two free throws gave the Hurricanes a 69-65 advantage with 5:43 to go.
Miami snapped an almost five minute scoreless streak on its next possession as Malik Reneau completed a three-point play to get the Hurricanes within four, 76-72, with 52 seconds to go.
NC State turned the ball over in the backcourt and Miami scored with 32 seconds left to get within four.
The Pack again turned it over on its next possession, but Miami missed a free throw and a three-pointer off an offensive rebounded to give NC State the ball back with 17 seconds to go.
Miami fouled Quadir Copeland in the backcourt, but the senior guard missed the front end of a one-and-one to give the Hurricanes the ball back down by two with 14 seconds remaining.
Tru Washington was fouled with 3.7 seconds left as he attempted a three-pointer and he made all three free throws to give the Hurricanes the win.
Matt Able scored a season-best 17 points as he tied for team-high scoring honors with Ven-Allen Lubin.
Lubin, the ACC's leader in field goal percentage, finished the game with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, pulled down a team-best nine rebounds and tied his career-high with four blocks.
Paul McNeil, Jr., chipped in 14 points, all in the second half, as he made four of his seven three-point attempts.
Miami was led by Reneau who scored a game-high 26 points. Shelton Henderson added 17 points and Tre Donaldson had 14.
Miami finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds which led to a 22-10 advantage in second chance points.
The Hurricanes outscored NC State, 56-32, in points in the paint.
NC State took a 42-37 lead into the halftime locker room after a tightly contested opening 20 minutes that saw 10 lead changes and eight ties between the two teams.
The Pack shot 56 percent in the opening half as made 10-of-its-14 two-point attempts and all seven of its attempts at the foul line, but the Hurricanes countered with a 13-4 advantage in second chance points as Miami pulled down 11 offensive rebounds in the first half.
NC State is back in action Tuesday when it hosts 11th-ranked North Carolina (20-5, 8-4 ACC) inside a sold out Lenovo Center. Tipoff against the Tar Heels is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN.
