Pack Dismantles 16th-ranked North Carolina, 82-58

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team (19-8, 10-4 ACC) defeated 16th-ranked North Carolina (20-6, 8-5 ACC), 82-58,Tuesday night inside a sold out Lenovo Center.
NC State's 24-point margin of victory marked the Pack's largest win over North Carolina since an 85–57 triumph on Feb. 14, 1962.
NC State controlled the game from nearly the beginning as the Tar Heels only led for 30 seconds of game time and the Pack took its first double-digit lead of the game, 22-11, with 12:02 left in the first half on a Matt Able three-pointer.
The Tar Heels got within seven, 25-18, with 8:26 to play until halftime, but a 10-2 run gave NC State a 35-20 advantage with 4:23 until the break and the Tar Heels never got closer than 12 the rest of the way.
NC State held a 42-26 advantage at halftime and the Tar Heels could never cut into its deficit in the final 20 minutes.
NC State's defense held UNC to 31.7 percent shooting and just 15.2 percent shooting from three-point range. It was a season-low field goal percentage for the Tar Heels and the lowest field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage this season for an NC State opponent.
Quadir Copeland led five NC State players in double figures with 20 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals in the victory.
Matt Able established a new career-high for the second consecutive game as he scored 19 points in the win over the Tar Heels. Able made a season-best five three-pointers while also pulling down six rebounds.
Darrion Williams finished with 13 points despite only playing 16 minutes after suffering a gash over his left eye that needed stitches in the first half.
Ven-Allen Lubin finished with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and added six rebounds while Paul McNeil, Jr., finished with 10 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
NC State finished the game with a season-low tying four turnovers and had a 16-3 advantage over UNC in points off turnovers.
After giving up a season-high 56 paint points to Miami on Saturday, the Pack cut that number in half on Tuesday as UNC only had 28 paint points and NC State finished with a 40-28 advantage in that category.
NC State has a bye this weekend and does not play again until next Tuesday when it plays at 14th-ranked Virginia. Tipoff in Charlottesville is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
