
Simmers Power Pushes Pack Past Pirates in Midweek Showdown

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Freshman Kendall Simmers smashed two home runs to lead the NC State softball team in its 4-3 win over East Carolina Tuesday evening.
The game marked the first of Simmers' career with two homers.
Sophomore outfielder Tori Ensley recorded the first hit of the evening for the Pack with an infield single in the top of the second.
A three-run homer by Morgan Johnson in the bottom of the third allowed ECU to take an early 3-0 lead over the Pack.
Simmers smashed her 12th homer of the season to put the Pack on the board. At the conclusion of the top half of the fourth, NC State trailed 3-1.
Senior Michele Tarpey led off the sixth inning with a walk and fellow senior Taylor Ensley reached base on an error that became an attempted rundown, but she would end up on second as Tarpey slid home to minimize the deficit to one, 3-2. As she fell behind in the count 1-2, Simmers drilled her second homer of the evening to give the Pack the lead, 4-3.
Redshirt-sophomore Wynne Gore threw three innings for the Pack and was credited with the win, moving her to 7-5 on the season. She finished with two strikeouts for the Pack.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Carly Maxton entered the circle in the sixth inning as the Pack led, 4-3 and earned the save to mark her first of the year. She recorded three strikeouts.
The Pack will return to Raleigh for its final home series of the season. NC State will host No. 18/21 Duke for the final conference series of 2025 starting on Friday, April 25 at 7pm at Dail Softball Stadium.
