Pack Falls in Series Opener to #21/18 Duke

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State softball team fell to No. 21/18 Duke, 9-2, Friday evening in the series opener at Dail Softball Stadium.Â
The Blue Devils wasted no time as Ana Gold hit a two run homer to take an early lead.Â
The Pack responded in the bottom of the first as senior Michele Tarpey hit a leadoff single up the middle and fellow senior Taylor Ensley smashed the first pitch thrown her way to right field to tally her 12th homer of the season to even the score, 2-2.
After a scoreless second inning for both teams, Duke posted three more runs on the board in the third to take the lead, 5-2.Â
The Blue Devils would go on to post four more runs and shut out the Pack for six straight innings, securing the 9-2 win.Â
Kendall Simmers, Payden Bordeau, and Hannah Church all added one hit to the box score Friday evening.Â
The Pack drops to 24-26 on the season and 5-17 in conference play.Â
NC State will return to Dail on Saturday, April 26 at 6pm for game two of the series. The meeting will be streamed on ACCNX.
