Pack Secures Four NCAA Individual Championship Qualifying Spots at ITA Sectional Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - No. 72 Mia Slama, No. 88 Lavinia Tanasie, and No. 74 Gabriella Broadfoot each clinched berths in the NCAA Singles Championships, while the doubles tandem of No. 25 Anna Zyryanova and Jasmine Conway earned a spot in the NCAA Doubles Championship during the ITA Sectional Championships hosted by UNC in Chapel Hill this past weekend. With those results, NC State women's tennis will send a program-record six total entries, four singles and two doubles, to the NCAA Individual Championships in Orlando later this month.

ITA Sectional play began Thursday, Nov. 6, with the singles round of 32 and doubles round of 16. Three of the Pack's four singles competitors, Tanasie, Broadfoot, and Slama, advanced with straight-set victories. In doubles, second-seeded Zyryanova and Conway downed a Princeton duo, while Tanasie and Slama defeated a team from UConn.

In the singles round of 16, Broadfoot highlighted the Pack's strong showing by defeating No. 61 Shavit Kimchi of Duke, while all three NC State players advanced to the quarterfinals with straight-set wins. Zyryanova and Conway also reached the NCAA-qualifying round of doubles play with a victory over a Boston College pair.

With NCAA berths on the line, the Pack delivered. Tanasie and Slama both took down ranked Duke opponents, No. 49 Liv Hovde and No. 42 Eleana Yu, respectively, while Broadfoot earned her qualifying win over sixth-seeded Ria Bhakta of Clemson.
In doubles, Zyryanova and Conway punched their ticket to Orlando by defeating Anastasia Sysoeva and Nelly Knezkova from Syracuse in straight sets in the semifinals.
The Pack's performance at ITA Sectionals capped off a strong qualifying season and helped solidify the program's largest group of entries ever in the NCAA Individual Championships. Representing the Wolfpack in Orlando will be Slama, Broadfoot, Zyryanova, and Tanasie in singles, while Broadfoot and Victoria Osuigwe and Zyryanova and Conway will compete in doubles.
