RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State women's tennis has signed incoming transfer Roisin Gilheany from Oklahoma ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, head coach Simon Earnshaw announced Tuesday morning.
"Roisin was a player we recruited hard prior to college," said Earnshaw. "So when the opportunity popped up during the transfer portal window, Dave (Secker) and I already knew that she was going to be an ideal fit. Roisin displays all the attributes on court that we look for in players. She serves well, is a physical player that plays forcing tennis and is very comfortable finishing points at the net. After an incredible season where she attained the number one ranking in doubles, I anticipate Roisin will have an immediate impact next season in both singles and doubles. Along with Ariana Pursoo, Roisin considerably strengthens our team and brings even more experience to what is now an already experienced and tight knit group! Go Pack!!"
"I chose NC State because I believe it is the best place for me to continue developing as both a singles and doubles player," said Gilheany. "The coaching staff, team culture and competitive environment will help me improve all areas of my game and give me the best opportunity to pursue professional tennis. I'm excited to take the next step in my journey! Go Pack!!"
Gilheany comes to NC State after spending three seasons at Oklahoma, highlighted by a highly successful 2025-26 campaign, particularly on the doubles court. She spent the entire dual-match season ranked No. 1 nationally in doubles by the ITA after advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships in the fall, a run that earned her ITA Doubles All-America honors. She was also the runner-up at the ITA All-American Championships in doubles during the 2025 fall season.
On the year, Gilheany compiled a 20-7 overall doubles record, including a 10-4 mark during dual-match play. She also added three singles victories and earned All-SEC First Team honors at the conclusion of the season.
Prior to redshirting her sophomore year, Gilheany joined the Sooners in the spring of 2024 and quickly made an impact, recording 12 doubles wins and earning All-Big 12 Doubles First Team recognition.
A native of Melbourne, Australia, Gilheany climbed as high as No. 69 in the ITF Junior Rankings and competed at three Junior Grand Slam events in 2023: the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. She captured the J4 Preveza singles title in 2021, both the J300 Bytom & J200 Santo Domingo doubles titles in 2023, amassing 10 ITF junior titles total during her career.
Roisin has career high WTA rankings of 1226 in singles and 413 in doubles. In 2023 she won the Doubles title at W60 Gold Coast partnered with Maya Joint (Aus) and reached the doubles final at W25 Cairns with Alicia Smith (Aus).
The Wolfpack will begin the 2026-27 campaign this fall after making its fourth NCAA Elite Eight appearance in the last six seasons and capturing the program's second ACC Championship in 2026.
