Powerful Fourth Inning Pushes Pack Past Elon for a Third Time

RALEIGH, N.C. – A 10-run fourth inning allowed the NC State softball team to find its way back into the win column after defeating Elon, 12-2, Tuesday evening at Dail Softball Stadium

The win moves the Wolfpack to 19-16 on the season, officially surpassing the total number of wins in the 2023 season.

How it Happened

Elon plated one in the top of the third after a single to right center field by Allee Seering to take the lead.
In the bottom of the third with one out and two on, sophomore Madison Inscoe hit her second double of the season to bring two home and give NC State the lead, 2-1.
Sophomore Rylee Wyman pitched the first three innings for the Wolfpack and picked up two strikeouts in her time in the circle.
Madison Inscoe pitched the top of the fourth inning. Gabi Schaal recorded a solo home run to tie the game two-all.
The Pack responded in the bottom of the fourth by scoring 10 runs after two homers, three singles, two doubles, and five walks.
With one on base and no outs, MaKayla Marbury entered the lineup as a pinch hitter. She drilled a rocket to left centerfield to tally her eighth homer of the season. The two run bomb pushed the Pack in front, 4-2. Tori Ensley then singled to left field and Taylor Ensley doubled to right field to have two on with no outs. After the Phoenix grabbed the first out, Madison Inscoe stepped into the batter's box and drilled a three-run homer to center field to push NC State ahead, 7-2. The Wolfpack added two more runs after a stolen base, fielder's choice, and two singles allowed runners to score. The Pack ended the frame with a 12-2 lead over the Phoenix.
The Pack faced five Elon pitcher's in the bottom of the fourth inning, who gave up a combined five walks, six hits, and 10 runs.
Kayla Fekel pitched the top of the fifth for NC State and picked up three strikeouts.
The Pack finished the outing with 12 runs scored on seven hits and had nine batters walked. Tori Ensley, Taylor Ensley, and Madison Inscoe all recorded two hits in the outing to lead the Pack offensively – Inscoe also tallied five RBI's.
Inscoe was credited with the win to move her to 6-7 on the season from the circle. Fekel led the pitching staff with three strikeouts in her one inning pitched.
The win marked the third over the Phoenix this season.

Next Up
The Pack will remain in Raleigh to host its fifth ACC series of the season against No. 15 Virginia Tech. The series is set to begin on Friday, April 5 at 6pm.
