How it Happened
- Sophomore MaKayla Marbury extended the opening frame after recording a single to left field with two outs on the board. The opportunity to get into scoring position was cut short after the Hoos picked up the final out.
- The Pack took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second after a double from Madison Inscoe and single from Taylor Ensley allowed four to cross home.
- The Hoos added one run to the board in the bottom of the second after a sacrifice fly brought one home.
- Kaylee Lambrecht recorded a leadoff single in the fourth, but was unable to get into scoring position to increase the lead.
- Virginia tied things four-all after a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth.
- NC State responded in the top of the fifth by adding three runs to the board. Marbury led off the inning with a walk and Hasler followed suit. Junior Hannah Goodwin would then single to left field, allowing Marbury to score. Goodwin's hit was reviewed as it hit the right side of the leftline foul post, but was confirmed a fair ball. Goins then singled up the middle and advanced on a throw which allowed two to score. Tha Pack finished the frame with a 7-4 lead over the Hoos.
- With two out on the board and bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, Leah Boggs recorded a two RBI double that brought the Hoos within one of the Pack. Rylee Wyman then entered the circle and helped pick up the final out before the Hoos could tie things up for a second time.
- Taylor Ensley hit a first pitch bomb in the top of the sixth with one out to increase the lead to two. Marbury was then walked for the second time and Hasler headed to the plate for the fourth time. After working a 2-2 count, Hasler drilled a two-run bomb to center field to mark her 11th homer of the season. The Pack finished the frame with a 10-6 lead over the Hoos.
- Virginia minimized the lead for one in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to take the lead or tie things up. The Pack finished the game on top, 10-9.
- The loss marked the third time this season Virginia scored three or more runs and lost.
- Three members of the Pack recorded two hits – Ellie Goins, Taylor Ensley, and Amanda Hasler. Ensley led the Pack with three RBI's.
- Hasler's home run marked a single season career high for the sophomore and marked the 20th of her career.
- Madison Inscoe pitched 3.2 innings for the Pack and recorded one strikeout. She was credited with the win and moved to 7-7 on the season.
- Rylee Wyman pitched the final 2.1 innings and was credited with the save, marking her second of the season.
