
Pack Drops Double Header to Georgia Tech

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team (14-7, 1-4) battled with Georgia Tech (17-7, 5-0) for a total of 18 innings on Friday evening but ended up dropping both games in the double header to start the series at Dail Stadium.
The first game went to 11 innings, marking NC State's longest game since 2019.

The Pack returns to Dail Softball Stadium on Sunday to take on the Yellow Jackets for game three of the series. First pitch is slated for noon on ACCNX.

How it Happened
- The two teams were scoreless until the sixth inning when the Yellow Jackets scored after an error by the Wolfpack allowed one run to score.
- The Pack added a run of its own in the bottom of the seventh after Taylor Ensley hit a solo bomb to right-center field. The homer was her sixth of the season and first in conference play.
- In the top of the 11th, the Yellow Jackets added three more runs to the board to take a 4-1 lead.
- The Wolfpack attempted to respond in the bottom half of the inning, but came up short.
- Aisha Weixlmann started in the circle for the Wolfpack and tossed 5.2 innings. She finished the evening with three strikeouts and one walk. Madison Inscoe spent 5.1 innings in the circle and tallied two strikeouts.
- Six members of the Pack recorded a hit in the contest – MaKayla Marbury, Taylor Ensley, Michele Tarpey, Ellie Goins, Madison Inscoe and Tori Ensley.
- The loss snapped the ten-game home winning streak the Pack held entering the evening.
- The game marked the longest for the Pack this season, running for three hours and 15 minutes.
How it Happened
- The Yellow Jackets wasted no time taking a 1-0 lead over the Pack. In the top of the first, Georgia Tech scored after an infield single allowed the runner at third to reach home.
- MaKayla Marbury recorded a leadoff walk in the bottom half of the frame, later stealing second and then advancing to third on a passed ball. She was left on base as Tech picked up three outs.
- Tiffany Domingue hit a two-run homer in the top of the third to push Tech ahead 3-0.
- The Wolfpack responded in the bottom half of the inning after Taylor Ensley singled down the left field line, allowing her sister Tori Ensley to score to shrink the deficit to two.
- The Yellow Jackets added four more runs to the board in the fourth after a grand slam by Mallorie Black put them ahead 7-1.
- NC State struggled to get a ball in play, recording only two hits in the outing – both coming from the Ensley sisters.
- Freshman Carly Maxton pitched three innings for the Pack, while Aisha Weixlmann and Rylee Wyman each pitched two. Wyman led the pitching staff with two strikeouts.
