
Olivares Leon Wins Share of Landfall Tradition Title

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Senior Lauren Olivares Leon earned her third career win, as she shared the individual medalist title at the Landfall Tradition. Sharing with Florida State's Lottie Woad, Olivares Leon carded a 6-under 210 (69-70-71) across the three rounds at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington. Olivares Leon, who now is tied for the most individual wins in program history, paced the Pack, who finished in sixth with a season-best 8-over 872 (291-286-295).
Olivares Leon was the only golfer to finish under par in all three rounds and one of three to finish at par or better in each round. She got off to a great start on Friday with a 3-under 69 behind four birdies, 13 pars and just one bogey. Olivares Leon followed up with a 70 in the second round, again just logging one bogey with three birdies and 14 pars. The senior was in fifth place going into the final round, and she played steady all Sunday with three birdies, including on back-to-back holes to slide in that tie for first.
Additionally, Olivares Leon's 6-under 210 is a season best, and she now has five rounds at par or better on the season. Among the tournament field, Olivares Leon had a tie for the best par 3s average (2.75) and third best par 4s average (3.97), as well as the second most pars (40).
Marie Eline Madsen's stellar freshman season continued, as she logged a 1-under 215 (73-69-73) to tie for ninth. She started the weekend with a 1-over 73 behind three birdies, 11 pars and four bogeys. The freshman tallied her fifth round in the 60s on Saturday with a 3-under 69, which was done with minimal mistakes with four birdies, one bogey and 13 pars. Madsen was 3-over par through her first 11 holes on Sunday, but logged two birdies and six pars in her final eight holes to finish the round strong.
Madsen finished with the seventh most pars in the field (38). She wrapped up the fall season with four top 10 finishes in all four tournaments, seven rounds at par or better and five rounds in the 60s.
Caitlin Whitehead had a solid weekend for the Pack, finishing in a tie for 42nd out of 95 golfers with a 7-over 223 (72-73-78). On Friday, she logged her first round at par or better at NC State with an even-72. She did that with three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars. She followed that up with a 1-over 73 with four birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey. On Sunday, the senior logged a 78.
Ellise Rymer finished the tournament with a 10-over 226 (78-74-74) to tie for 54th. After a 78 in the first round, Rymer carded back-to-back 74s in the second and third rounds. Her solid finish with one birdie, 14 pars and three bogeys moved her up 18 spots on the leaderboard.
Vania Simont logged a 12-over 228 (77-74-77). She tied for 63rd in the tournament, logging 30 pars and seven birdies across the weekend.
NC State had the best par 4s average (4.05) and second most pars (178) in the tournament field.
