
Wolfpack Ends #STATEment Season in NCAA Championships Sweet 16

The No. 12 Pack Fell to No. 5 Duke 4-0
DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 12 NC State women's tennis team concluded its season in the NCAA Championships Sweet 16, falling to No. 5 Duke 4-0 on Friday night.
The Pack hosted the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history, winning the first and second rounds at the J.W. Isenhour Center setting up a matchup with Duke, marking the program's first trip to the Sweet 16.
NC State closes the season 24-7, while Duke improves to 26-3 and advances to the NCAA Championships Elite 8 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
The program soared to new heights this year, breaking the program record for conference wins (previously seven) and total wins (previously 19). Tabbed at No. 9 in the Oracle/ITA Division I Rankings at one point during the 2019 campaign, the Pack achieved the program's highest ranking.
In doubles, the Blue Devils took the first six games, and NC State responded with three consecutive games of its own, leaving all courts standing at 2-1.
No. 7 Anna Rogers and Alana Smith rattled off six straight games to take court one, 6-2. The duo defeated No. 47 Kelly Chen and Ellyse Hamlin for its sixth consecutive doubles win and 14th ranked doubles win of the season. Shortly after, Adriana Reami and Claudia Wiktorin dropped their match on court two in a 6-4 decision, leaving the doubles point up for grabs on court three.
Bianca Moldovan and Liz Norman battled back into the match, pulling within two games at 5-3, but Duke would take the doubles point, putting NC State behind 1-0 heading into singles play. Friday's match marked the first time in five contests that the squad dropped the doubles point.
Duke claimed five of six first sets on its way to three consecutive singles victories to take the match 4-0.
