Softball Travels To Charlotte For Midweek Matchup

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team will travel to Charlotte Wednesday afternoon for a midweek contest with the 49ers. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at the D.L. Phillips Complex and will be streamed on CUSA.tv($).
The Wolfpack enters the matchup with a 3-11 season record and Charlotte is 12-4.
PACK VS. 49ERS HISTORY
Wednesday's contest will be the 22nd all-time meeting between the programs, with NC State owning a 16-5 advantage in the series. The Wolfpack defeated the 49ers 6-5 at Dail Stadium in their last meeting (March 2, 2016).
LAST TIME OUT
NC State traveled to Cathedral City, Calif., for the Mary Nutter Classic Feb. 23-25, which was highlighted by a 7-4 win over New Mexico State.
GETTING ON BASE
-NC State has three players that hold an on-base percentage higher than .400 this year – Jade Caraway (.467), Molly Hutchison (.409) and Brittany Nimmo (.400).
-Caraway holds a team-high 25 total bases while five others are in double digits.
TRIPLE THREAT
Caraway has tallied a team-best three triples this season and two of them were hit at the Mary Nutter Classic against UCLA and Oregon State last weekend. She's the only player in the ACC that has three and is ranked fifth in the conference in batting average with .439.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
-Seven players on the team have hit at least one double this season. Cheyenne Balzer, Molly Hutchison and Jessica Moore hold three apiece while Tyler Ross and Nimmo hold two. Caraway and Natalie Jones have additionally hit one each.
-As a team, NC State has recorded a double play in six of its games, which ranks third among the conference. The most recent was against Oregon State on Feb. 24 by Alyssa Compton (ss), Jones (2b) and Balzer (1b).
ABOUT CHARLOTTE
-The 49ers hold a 9-0 ledger at home, earning four wins its Green and White Tournament last weekend. Charlotte defeated Robert Morris twice and La Salle and Fairfield one time each.
-As a team they hold a .329 batting average and are scoring 5.50 runs a game.
-Haley Pace leads the team at the plate with a team best 25 hits and five home runs with a .500 clip.
-In the circle, Haley Wiseman paces the pitching staff with a 1.48 ERA and an 8-2 record. Charlotte pitchers have combined to record a 2.23 ERA as a team.
