Wolfpack heads to Tallahassee, Fla., to face the ninth-ranked Seminoles
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team will face a stiff challenge this weekend when it travels to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on the ninth-ranked Florida State Seminoles. The series will be played over three days, with one game on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at JoAnne Graf Field.
Â
Saturday and Sunday's games will air live on ESPNU, the first time NC State will have a game appear on national television this season. The series commences Friday evening at 6 p.m. and continues Saturday at 5:30 p.m. before concluding Sunday at 4 p.m.
Â
NC State enters the weekend with a 17-21 overall record and a 3-6 clip in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, while Florida State is 28-4 and 7-1 in conference action.
Â
Last season, FSU won both games of the Saturday doubleheader to clinch the series, but NCSU responded Sunday with a victory in game three of the series.
Â
Last Time OutÂ
NC State will look to bounce back after coming up short in its last outing, suffering a 4-2 setback against Elon at home in extra innings.
Â
FSU defeated Jacksonville, 4-0, in its most recent outing, as head Lonni Alameda earned her 500th career victory.
Â
Ross Among Elite Crowd
Junior Tyler Ross has enjoyed a phenomenal 2016 season to this point, as she is one of just three players in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 30 or more hits, runs scored and runs batted in (RBI). Florida State's Alex Powers and Jessica Warren are the other two to accomplish the feat.
Â
12 & Counting
Ross has reached base safely with a hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in every game since the Bryant matchup on March 18 to compile a 12-game reached base safely streak. She also had a six-game hitting streak during that stretch from Bryant to the first game of the doubleheader at Louisville March 25.
Â
Rychcik Approaching 400
Fourth-year head coach Shawn Rychcik is approaching 400 career wins. Rychcik currently has 397 wins to his credit and needs three more wins to reach the milestone.
Â
The More, The Merrier
NC State has out-hit its opponent 13 times this year and is 12-1 when accomplishing the feat.
Â
Scoring FirstÂ
The Wolfpack has scored first in 13 of its 17 wins this season and in contrast, has just four wins when the opponent scores first.
Â
Crucial Third Inning
NC State has compiled a record of 11-4 when leading after the third inning. In contrast, the Wolfpack is just 2-12 when trailing at the end of the third frame.
