Stenta Succeeds to Main Draw, Frantova and Wiktorin Advance in Doubles at ITA Carolina's Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolina's Regional began on Thursday with sophomore Tayla Stenta succeeding her way into the singles main draws.

Stenta defeated Macy Vonderschmidt of Charlotte 6-1, 6-3 before conquering 6-4, 6-4 in the final qualifying match against the top-seeded Natalia Janowicz of Elon to advance to main draw play.

Taylor Zaytoun fell 6-3, 6-1 in the first round of qualifiers to No. 1 seed Xue Zhang of Wake Forest.

The four Wolfpack duos all competed in round of 64 and round of 32 doubles draws on day one of tournament play. With a bye in round of 64 match-ups, the No. 5-seeded pair, Martina Frantova and Claudia Wiktorin advanced to round of 16 play following an 8-1 defeat of Marika Akkerman and Maggie Kane of UNC.

Frantova and Wiktorin continue doubles play at 9 a.m. Friday against Clare Cox and Heidi Swope of App. State.

Stenta, Frantova and Wiktorin along with Bianca Moldovan, Barbara Mancera, Joanna Nalborska and Amanda Rebol will continue play at the ITA Carolina's Regional Friday with the first round of singles main draws set to begin at 9 a.m.

Friday scheduled play includes the first and second rounds of singles main draws along with round of 16 doubles match-ups.
