CARY, N.C. — Samantha Norman and Allison Hofmann finished 10th and 11th, respectively, to lead the NC State women’s cross country team to a second-place finish in the women’s college race Friday at the Great American Cross Country Festival.
The race was officially a “B” race for the Wolfpack, which did not field any athletes who ran in last weekend’s Roy Griak Invitational.
Norman ran the 5k women’s race in a time of 18:41.4, with Hofmann just under 10 seconds back at 18:52.0. Natalie Rich (19:23.6) and Marika Walker (19:25.0) were 13th and 14th, and Amira Chowyuk (21:06.0) finished 21st to round out the scoring for NC State. The Wolfpack had a team score of 58 points.
NC State did not field a team in the men’s race. Three Wolfpack men’s runners — Lewis McPherson, Matt Schick and John Wolfe — participated, but all three pulled out of the 8k men’s college race by design after running approximately six kilometers, which is where each was in their personal training cycles.
NC State will return to action on Oct. 14. The Wolfpack’s starters will run in the Wisconsin adidas Invitational. Selected back-ups and unattached redshirts will run in the Blue Ridge Open at Boone, N.C.
