WILMINGTON, N.C. Junior Emily Street remains in the top-five individually and No. 30 NC State moved up one slot to eighth after two rounds of The Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall’s Jack Nicklaus Course.
Early morning rain gave way to sunny skies, allowing for lower scores during the second day of the 54-hole tournament. The Wolfpack shot a team score Saturday of +20 (308) 14 strokes better than yesterday and has a two-day score of +54 (322-308=630). Defending champion Wake Forest (585) blistered the field with an even-par 288 and owns a 22-stroke cushion over second-place North Carolina (608).
Street followed up yesterday’s 74 with a three-over 75 on Saturday and is tied for fifth overall at +5 (74-75=149). The Forest City, N.C., native was at one-over most of the day until a double bogey at No. 18 ended her day on a sour note. She also had one birdie at No. 7 and a pair of bogeys on her round.
Senior Lauren Doughtie had an absolute roller coaster of a day with four birdies, six bogeys and a triple bogey. She was at three-over after a birdie at No. 16, but posted bogey at the final two holes to finish at five-over on Saturday and is tied for 34th overall at +16 (83-77=160).
Freshman Meghan Chapman is tied for 34th with Doughtie after shooting a six-over 78 and is at +16 (82-78=160) after 36 holes. She got off to a rough start with a triple bogey at No. 2 and then two more bogeys to leave her at +5 through just six holes. However, the Seminole, Fla., native held it together with 11 pars and one bogey over the final 12 holes
Freshman Hunter Ross, in her first collegiate tournament, shot a six-over 78 today and is tied for 41st overall at +17 (83-78=161). She had a birdie at No. 7 and played very well on the back nine, shooting a one-over 37 with just one bogey and eight pars.
Sophomore Julie Saleeby is tied for 46th at +20 (84-80=164). She also birdied No. 7 today to highlight her round. Consecutive double bogeys on the front nine set her back a bit, but did shoot just +2 over the final 10 holes.
Freshman Cheyenne Woods of Wake Forest holds a one-stroke edge over teammate Natalie Sheary on the women’s leaderboard. Woods, niece of Tiger Woods, fashioned a 1-under 71 on Saturday, one of just three sub-par rounds on the day, giving her a two-day total of 75-71=146. Sheary shot a 75 in the second round for a 72-75=147 card.
Play resumes Sunday with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start.
