WILMINGTON, N.C. No. 30 NC State completed its fall schedule with an eighth place showing at the The Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall’s Jack Nicklaus Course.
Junior Julie Saleeby made a bit of history Sunday by becoming just the fourth Wolfpack women’s golfer to record a hole-in-one. The Raleigh, N.C., native used an eight iron to ace the 120-yard 13th hole.
The Wolfpack shot a team score on Sunday of +18 (306) and finished off the 54-hole tournament with a score of +72 (322-308-306=936).
Defending champion Wake Forest (880) cruised through the field to win by 28 strokes over Ohio State (908). Michigan and North Carolina (916) tied for third.
Junior Emily Street began the day tied for fifth on the individual leader board. She was unable to keep pace as she shot a disappointing 82 to fall back into a tie for 19th overall at +15 (74-75-82=231). She bogeyed her first six holes and was never able to get her round going in the right direction. Street did manage to record her eighth career top-20 finish.
Senior Lauren Doughtie showed much better form today with a +2 74 after two rounds that were out of character for the Suffolk, Va., native that is ranked in the top-50 nationally after earning medilist honors just two weeks ago at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate.
Doughtie began the day at No. 4 with her first of three birdies on Sunday as she moved six places up the field to finish tied for 28th at +18 (83-77-74=234).
Freshman Meghan Chapman shot a +5 77 on the final day to finish tied for 36th. She was able to avoid a big number on Sunday and had a rather steady round with two birdies and seven bogeys to post a score of +21 (82-78-77=237) for the tournament.
Freshman Hunter Ross completed her first collegiate event with a +7 79 and tied for 43rd overall at +24 (83-78-79=240). She finished her round with a birdie at the par-4 fifth hole.
Saleeby tied Ross for 43rd at +24 (84-80-76=240). In addition to heroics at No. 13, Saleeby also had a pair of birdies today.
Dolores White of Wake Forest won the individual title at +2 (218).
Saleeby joins Leslye Johnson (11/1/82), Sarah Bonner (9/28/02) and current assistant coach Ashlee Dean (10/3/04) as the only golfers to record a hole-in-one with the Wolfpack.
