Women’s Soccer Looks to Bounce Back Against Virginia Tech

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State women's soccer concludes its three-match homestand on Sunday, Sept. 27, against Virginia Tech at 6 p.m. The match will air on ACCNX.
The Pack enters Sunday at 8-1-2 after suffering its first loss of the season to Miami on Sept. 20. NC State will look to bounce back against the Hokies and return to the win column.

Last Time Out
NC State fell to Miami, 2-1, on a late 80th-minute goal on Sunday, Sept. 20, at Dail Soccer Stadium. Yuna Aoki scored the Wolfpack's lone goal, marking her third of the season. The loss moved NC State to 8-1-2, ending the Wolfpack's 10-match unbeaten run to open the season. The Pack's 8-0-2 start marked its best opening to a season since 1991.
Miami opened the scoring in the 10th minute on a goal from Madelynn Sadusky, but Aoki equalized in the 18th minute after finishing a rebound off a blocked shot from Erica Roberts. The teams entered halftime tied at 1-1, with NC State holding a 7-6 edge in shots. The Pack continued to pressure in the second half, outshooting Miami, 7-1, but Sadusky found the game-winner in the 80th minute with a shot from near midfield. The goal marked the first multi-goal game allowed by NC State this season.
Scouting the Hokies
Virginia Tech, which is receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Poll, enters Sunday's matchup at 6-1-3 overall and 2-0-0 in ACC play after earning a 1-0 win at Syracuse on Sept. 20. The Hokies opened ACC play with a 2-1 comeback victory at Pitt before defeating the Orange, with both wins coming on the road. Anna Weir leads the Hokies with five goals this season, while Eliana Salama's six assists are a team high.
Head coach Chugger Adair enters his 12th season at the helm of the Hokies in 2026. Virginia Tech's roster features a mix of returning veterans and newcomers, including 11 freshmen and several transfers. The Hokies have scored 21 goals from 11 different players and remain unbeaten on the road this season at 4-0-1.
Series History
Sunday will mark the 21st all-time meeting between NC State and Virginia Tech, with the Hokies holding a 12-5-3 advantage in the series.
The teams last met a season ago in Blacksburg, playing to a 4-4 draw. Antonella Mazziotto scored the equalizer with seven seconds remaining, while Jade Bordeleau, Mana Nakata and Fien Leijdekker also found the back of the net for the Wolfpack.
The Pack enters Sunday's contest looking for its first win over the Hokies since 2017.
