Pack Surges Early, Holds On Late to Complete Sweep Against Cal

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team used a pair of big early innings and held off a late California rally to secure a 10–9 victory on Sunday evening at Dail Softball Stadium, completing the series sweep.

The series marks the second of the 2025 campaign and the first ever over the Golden Bears.

How It Happened

Cal struck first in the opening inning with an RBI single from Anaya Togia to take an early 1–0 lead.
NC State responded immediately with a four-run bottom of the first, taking advantage of defensive miscues and RBI hits from Morgen Talley and MaKayla Marbury.
The Golden Bears answered with a four-run second inning to briefly take a 5–4 lead.
The Pack responded big in the bottom half, scoring five runs, capped by Talley's grand slam – the second of the series - to left field to reclaim a 9–5 advantage.
NC State added another run in the third on an RBI walk from Kendall Simmers to extend the lead to five (10–5).
Cal chipped away with two runs in the sixth, cutting the deficit to three.
The Golden Bears made things interesting in the seventh with a two-run home run, trimming the Pack's lead to one (10–9).
Talley held firm in the circle, recording the final outs to secure the win and complete the sweep.

The win marks the 25^th of the season, sixth in conference action and
The Pack's 11 hits mark the third consecutive game with double-digit knocks.
The nine runs scored across the first two frames ties for the second most this season in runs scored between consecutive frames.
Talley posted a five RBI game after a grand slam and RBI single. She also posted 5.0 innings of relief in the circle to pick up the win.
