BLACKSBURG, Va. – NC State jumped out to an early three-run lead, but No. 11/11 Virginia Tech responded with 11 unanswered runs to take an 11-3 victory Saturday afternoon at Tech Softball Park.

The Pack plated three runs in the opening frame, but the Hokies answered immediately. The loss moves NC State to 19-13 on the season and 1-4 in conference action.

How It Happened

NC State struck first with a big opening inning, as Lily Livingston delivered a two-RBI single and Hannah Church followed with an RBI knock to give the Pack a 3-0 lead.
Virginia Tech answered right away in the bottom half, scoring three runs on a two-run double and a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3 after one.
The Hokies took their first lead in the second inning on a solo home run, making it 4-3.
Virginia Tech added another run in the third, capitalizing on walks and a bases-loaded RBI free pass to extend the lead to 5-3.
The game broke open in the fourth inning, when the Hokies scored four runs on five hits, including a two-RBI single up the middle to push the advantage to 9-3.
Virginia Tech tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, including a second home run of the game, to reach the final margin of 11-3.
After the first inning, NC State managed just one hit the rest of the way as Virginia Tech pitching settled in.
