Cool Bats Doom Pack Against #11/8 Texas A&M and #1/1 Texas Tech

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The NC State softball team fell on day two of the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational hosted by ESPN Events to No. 11/8 Texas A&M and No. 1/1 Texas Tech.

How it Went Down
- Rylee Wyman earned the nod in the circle and saw three up, three down in the opening frame.
- Neither team was able to get things going offensively until the top of the fourth when a fielder's choice allowed Kennedy Powell to score, getting the Aggies on the board, 1-0.
- The top of the sixth saw seven touch home. A double by Ariel Kowalewski hit an RBI double to bring home one. After two more singles, Wyman's morning in the circle was concluded. She went five complete innings with four strikeouts, including three straight batters in the third.
- Junior Kendall Weik entered the circle in relief, and the Aggies added a home run and two singles to the board to push the lead to 8-0.
- The Aggies thought they had a run-rule win and perfect game secured, but the Wolfpack got four hits past the defense in addition to earning a walk. It was freshman Carly Short and sophomore Kendall Simmers both hit RBI singles to get NC State on the board.
- Texas A&M brought in a pitching change and picked up the final out of the inning.
- The Aggies added two more runs to the board after an RBI single from Michela Wark and RBI double from Maddie Sauni, pushed the lead back to eight (10-2).
- The Wolfpack finished with four hits in the outing and the loss moved NC State to 3-6 on the season.

How it Went Down
- The Red Raiders struck first in the outing, posting a crooked number on the board in the opening frame thanks to a two-run homer from Mihyia Davis.
- Morgen Talley singled through the left side with one out in the second to give NC State its first hit of the meeting.
- Texas Tech posted an additional three runs in both the second and third innings. Both Jasmyn Burns and Desirae Spearman homered to deep center field to put the Red Raiders in front, 8-0 at the end of the fourth.
- The Pack did not get a hit on the board until the fourth inning when senior Hannah Church smashed a hard-hit ball down the left field line to bring home Short who led off the inning with a walk to make it a seven-run game (1-8).
- The Red Raiders responded by posting seven more runs on the board in the bottom half of the fourth. Three singles allowed runners to score and the number one team in the nation posted a game high six hits in the frame.
- NC State struggled on both sides of the ball as it picked up two errors and only got two hits on the board in the end.
- The loss moves the Pack to 3-6 on the season and 1-2 in the tournament.
Up Next
The Pack will face UCF on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 12pm and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
