Pack Drops Midweek at UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC State softball team dropped its midweek meeting at UNC Greensboro, 4-3, Wednesday evening at UNCG Softball Stadium.Â
How it Happened
The Pack will return to Raleigh for an eight game homestead starting with a series against No. 13/11 Virginia Tech. The first game will be Friday, April 4 at 6pm on ACC Network.Â
How it Happened
- The Pack began the outing by seeing the top of the batting order walked to load the bases for junior Hannah Church. The Spartans managed to strikeout the Pack's best hitter to pick up the first out of the meeting.Â
- Junior MaKayla Marbury fell behind 0-1 in the count before smacking the ball to left center to bring home two to get the Pack on the board in the opening frame.Â
- UNCG's Sam Beck led off the bottom of the third inning with a first pitch homer to put the Spartans on the board and minimize the Pack's lead.Â
- Redshirt-sophomore Wynne Gore pitched 4.1 innings for the Pack and finished with four strikeouts. Sophomore Carly Maxton entered the circle in the top of the fifth with one out on the board.Â
- Grace Loftin smacked a three run homer in the top of the fifth with two outs to give the Spartans the lead, 4-2.Â
- With a 1-1 count on the board, senior Taylor Ensley led off the sixth inning with a solo homer to minimize the deficit to one. Junior Hannah Church worked a full count before being thrown ball four to head to first but she would be stranded in the end as the Spartans picked up the final two outs of the frame.Â
- Graduate Hannah Goodwin led off the seventh inning by reaching base on an error by the Spartans infield and would advance to second. Senior Alaina Smith entered to pinch hit and smacked a ball to left field to put runners on the corners but UNCG picked up three straight outs to end the game.Â
- NC State moves to 21-16 on the season.Â
