RALEIGH, NC – Coming off a sweep of Canisius, NC State baseball now prepares to play two mid-week games beginning on Mar. 4th against UNCG in Greensboro and Mar. 5th in Raleigh against Campbell.
The first pitch in Greensboro against the Spartans is set for 4 p.m. with Andrew Sanders on the call on WKNC 88.1 FM and the Varsity Network app. The Wolfpack's matchup with the Fighting Camels of Campbell at the Doak is set for 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACCNX, with fans also being able to tune in on WKNC 88.1 FM or through the Varsity Network app.
With a 33-10 over record against UNCG in the overall series that dates back to 1992, the Wolfpack will look to get back in the win column against the Spartans after falling 18-3 in the two teams' lone matchup last season. Meeting every season since 2020, the Spartans will make the trip to Raleigh later this year on April 1st.
Meeting for the 76th time, NC State holds a 53-21-1 record against Campbell. Last year, Campbell won a 12-inning contest 11-7 in a midweek game in Raleigh, and in 2023, the two teams met in the Columbia Regional twice, with each team winning one. The first meeting came in 1971, when NC State won 10-6.
The Wolfpack enters the week back over .500 at 6-5, with the sweep of Canisius ending a five-game losing streak. It was a dominant weekend for Wolfpack starting pitching. On Friday, Dominic Fritton got his first win of the season after going six innings and striking out a career-high 12 batters. Jaxon Lucas came on after and earned his first career save and struck out six for his career high.
Saturday saw Heath Andrews go a career-best seven innings pitched, only allowing one earned run on three hits and had three strikeouts.
On Sunday, Ryan Marohn tossed a gem in the Wolfpack's 10-0 win. Marohn went Career-high seven innings and had 11 strikeouts as he held Canisius scoreless on five hits and zero walks. Marohn is one of 25 pitchers nationally to pitch a complete game and the only ACC pitcher. He ranks 28th in the nation and fifth in the ACC with 24 strikeouts.
Contributions from up and down the lineup saw the Wolfpack score 32 runs over the weekend. Ty Head got the bats going with a grand slam for his first collegiate home run.
Cooper Consiglio will get the Tuesday start against UNCG. It will be the sixth career start for the sophomore and fifth appearance this season. His last start was against Ball State on April 28, 2024. Consiglio went 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Plenty of newcomers have contributed thus far this season. Ty Head has reached base safely in all 11 games this season and has 13 walks, including a four-walk game against Canisius. It was the first grand slam from a Wolfpack batter since Alex Sosa hit one against #8 Wake Forest in May 2024.
