GREENSBORO, NC – Behind stellar pitching from Cooper Consiglio and Anderson Nance, three home runs from the Wolfpack offense, NC State posted its second consecutive shutout, beating UNCG 10-0 in Greensboro on Tuesday night from UNCG Baseball Stadium.
NC State (7-5) pitching has thrown 16 straight scoreless innings, striking out 19 with no walks over that time. It is the first time since 2017 that NC State has shut out back-to-back opponents. (NC Central 4/25/17 & at East Carolina 4/26/17)
Getting the start was Cooper Consiglio, who was nearly perfect in his first start of the season. Consiglio went four innings, only allowing one hit with six strikeouts and no runs. Following Consiglio, was Nance (1-1). Nance went five more scoreless innings, allowing no runs on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks, to get his first win of his career.
With the score 3-0 in the eighth, the Wolfpack scored five runs to break the game open with the help from home runs from Alex Sosa and Josh Hogue. For Sosa, it was his team-leading fourth home run of the season, and Hogue's was his first of the season.
Chris McHugh hit the first homer of the game in the fourth, a two-run shot to make it 3-0 early. McHugh finished with three hits and three RBIs. McHugh now has 19 runs batted in this season to lead NC State.
Luke Nixon had a two-hit, two-RBI game while scoring three of the Wolfpack's eight runs.
The UNCG starter, Noah Chapman, got the loss (1-1). Chapman pitched four innings, allowing three runs and three hits.
Justin DeCriscio continued to get it done in the leadoff spot to begin the game, as he started things off with a deep drive to right field that the right fielder misplayed, allowing him to reach third. He came home to score the game's first run as Nixon brought him home with a groundball to second base to put the Pack up 1-0.
The lead was increased from one of the Wolfpack's hottest hitters as McHugh made it 3-0 in the top of the fourth with his second home run of the year.
The big eighth inning stared from a Spartan error, allowing Matt Heavner to get to second base. With two strikes, Nixon tripled, and Mchugh followed with a single for his third RBI of the game. McHugh now has three games recording three RBIs and has five multi-RBI games overall.
Hougue's home run in the eighth inning was his first since April 23, 2024, making it an 8-0 ball game. In the ninth, NC State added two more runs to make it 10-0 before Nance shut the door again to secure the victory.
During the Wolfpack's four-game win streak, the Pack has scored double-digit runs in each of the four games.
Up Next: NC State returns to the Doak tomorrow for a midweek matchup with Campbell. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ACCNX.
