Women’s Golf Finishes Third at City of Oaks Collegiate

RALEIGH -- The NC State women's golf team picked up a third-place finish at the City of Oaks Collegiate this weekend. The Pack shot a 47-over 911 (312-299-300) at home this weekend and had three players finish inside the top 11, led by Marie Eline Madsen's fifth-place showing with a 4-over 220 (73-74-73).
ECU won the tournament as a team with a 22-over 886, while Campbell followed with a 39-over 903.
Madsen earned her sixth top 10 finish of the season, third in the top five, after tallying fifth in Raleigh at Lonnie Poole Golf Course this weekend. She finished with 73s in the first and third rounds and a 74 in the second. She closed out the third round with two birdies, 13 pars and three bogeys. The freshman had the fourth best par 3s average (3.0), fifth best par 4s average (4.10) and the seventh most birdies (7) in the field.
Vania Simont delivered another solid performance with a top 10 finish for the second time in the last three tournaments. She finished with a 9-over 225 (77-72-76). On Saturday in the second round, Simont logged three birdies, 12 pars and three bogeys to finish even par. She finished with 32 pars, the eighth most in the tournament.
Lauren Olivares Leon finished just outside the top 10 with an 11-place showing. She logged a 10-over 226 (77-76-73). Her 35 pars were tied for the most by a golfer in the tournament field.
The Pack had two individuals on the course. Lea Ludwig logged a 20-over 236 (76-80-80) to tie for 33rd. Leena Stephens followed with a tie for 35th behind a 21-over 237 (79-78-80). Stephens competed in her first collegiate tournament.
Caitlin Whitehead finished in a tie for 48th in the field of 95. She logged a 24-over 240 (85-77-78). Jaclyn Kenzel tallied a 29-over 245 (85-79-81) to tie for 66th.
The Pack finished with the second most pars (147) and had the fourth best par 4s average (4.44) in the field.
