Game One - How it Happened
- The Pack wasted no time getting on the board in the opening frame as a passed ball by the Irish defense and two hits allowed NC State to post a crooked number on the board.
- Senior Michele Tarpey scored first for the Pack after a passed ball allowed her to cross the plate with one out. Freshman Kendall Simmers later doubled down the right line to bring home one and senior Taylor Ensley followed it up with a single to left that allowed Simmers to reach home.
- NC State posted three on the board in the bottom of the first to take the early lead.
- Junior Hannah Church doubled to right center with one on base in the bottom of the second with two outs to push the team's lead to four.
- Graduate Payden Bordeau continued her hitting streak with a homer to left center in the bottom of the third with two outs to increase the lead to five.
- The Irish managed to hold the Pack off the board in the fifth but it was the only frame Notre Dame kept NC State off the board.
- Graduate Hannah Goodwin wanted in on the hitting spread and drilled a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the fifth with one out to secure the final run for the Pack, 6-0.
- It wasn't until the top of the sixth that the Irish secured its first and only hit of the outing. Sydney Poeck singled to left field in an attempt to start a rally for Notre Dame.
- Sophomore Carly Maxton threw the complete game and picked up four strikeouts. The win moved her to 7-2 on the season and moved her earned run average back to a sub-two.
- The Wolfpack continued to build on the momentum from game one and held the Irish off the board in the first two innings.
- Junior MaKayla Marbury smashed a double to left field with two outs in the bottom of the second to get the Pack's first run on the board. Sophomore Tori Ensley followed it up with an infield single that allowed Marbury to score and push the lead to two.
- With two outs on the board in the top of the fourth, Jane Kronenberger hit a single to right field to get Notre Dame's first run of the afternoon.
- The Irish posted two more runs in the fifth inning after a single from Addison Amaral brought two home on an error by the Wolfpack defense.
- Junior right handed pitcher Rylee Wyman entered the circle in the fifth after the Irish took the lead. She struck out the next three batters swinging to end the chances of Notre Dame increasing the lead.
- After holding the Pack scoreless for four innings, the Irish slipped up in the bottom of the seventh as Tarpey was walked after a 15-pitch at bat and Taylor Ensley singled to left field to bring one home to tie the game three-all. The Irish struck out the next Wolfpack batter to send the game into an extra frame.
- Despite Notre Dame leading off the eighth inning with a walk, the Pack defense was solid and got the next three batters out.
- Graduate Payden Bordeau led off the bottom of the eighth with a double to left field and a sacrifice bunt from Hannah Goodwin allowed Bordeau to get to third.
- With a 1-0 count on the board, Marbury smashed a home run past the netting in left field to walk it off for the Pack.
- Wyman earned the win for the Pack and finished with five strikeouts. She moves to 5-2 on the season.
