
Pack Drops Heartbreaker to Stanford, 74-73

STANFORD, Calif. – The NC State men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Stanford, 74-73, Saturday evening inside Maples Pavilion.
Trey Parker rebounded a Dontrez Styles miss and laid it back in to give the Pack a 73-72 lead with 18 seconds to play, but Stanford's Ryan Agarwal took the inbounds pass and drove the length of the floor and made a tough runner with eight seconds left to give Stanford the edge.
Parker got a good look at a three-pointer right before the buzzer but his game-winning attempt rattled out.
Parker had the best game of his collegiate career against the Cardinal as he finished the game with a season-best 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting. He made a career-high five three-pointers in the game and also passed out five assists and zero turnovers in a season-high 28 minutes.
Stanford went on a 16-3 run midway the second half to take its largest lead of the game, 61-52, with 8:29 to play.
The Pack battled back though as NC State went on a 14-6 run to get within one, 67-66, on a Marcus Hill three-point play with 3:07 to go.
Stanford scored the next four points to push its advantage back to four, but Styles made a three-pointer to get NC State back within two, 71-69, with 1:30 to go.
After getting a stop on the defensive end, Parker found Ismael Diouf cutting to the basket to tie the game at 71 with 50 seconds to go.
Stanford made one free throw with 33 seconds left to take a 72-71 lead before Parker gave the Pack its final lead with his putback lay-up.
Parker was joined in double figures by Dontrez styles who had 18 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Styles was 11-of-14 from the foul line in the game. The 14 free throw attempts are the most for an NC State player since Dereon Seabron had 20 in the Pack's four overtime win over Nebraska on Dec. 1, 2021.
Marcus Hill also reached double figures, finishing with 14 points.
Stanford was led by Maxime Raynuad who had a double-double with a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds. Oziyah Sellers added 12 points while Chisom Okpara and Evan Stinson each had 10.
NC State took a 33-29 lead into the halftime break. The game was tied at 11 nine minutes in when the Pack went on a 6-0 run to take the lead and never trailed again in the opening 20 minutes.
The Pack's bench outscored the starters in the first half by a score of 19-to-14. Trey Parker had 12 points in the opening 20 minutes knocking down all four of his three-point attempts while Ismael Diouf added five points.
The bench finished with 30 points in the game, the third best output for the Pack's bench this season and the most bench points for NC State in an ACC game.
NC State returns home to host Louisville on Wednesday. Tipoff against the Cardinals is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Lenovo Center and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
