
Pack Drops Heartbreaker to FAU on Day Two of Joan Joyce Classic

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Wolfpack softball team dropped both games on day two of the Joan Joyce Classic hosted by Florida Atlantic Saturday afternoon.
After falling in Purdue, 7-0, NC State faced Florida Atlantic and fell dispite leading for the initial three frames of the meeting. The Pack moves to 5-4 on the season.

The Pack returns to Joan Joyce Field for its final game of the Joan Joyce Classic on Sunday Feb. 16. NC State will face Minnesota at 8:30am and the game will be streamed on FloSports.

How it Happened
- With one out on the board in the top of the first, senior Taylor Ensley singled to the infield to record the Pack's first hit of the day.
- The Boilermakers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after a single up the middle allowed one to score.
- Junior MaKayla Marbury recorded her first hit of the season in the top of the second after she hit an infield single.
- The bottom of the third inning saw Purdue tally four runs on three hits as the Wolfpack defense picked up two errors.
- NC State and Purdue put up zero's in the fourth inning, but the bottom of the fifth saw Alivia Meeks drill a two-run homer to push the Boilermakers ahead 7-0.
- Junior right handed pitcher Madison Inscoe was credited with the loss but finished with two strikeouts.
- Sophomore right handed pitcher Carly Maxton led the pitching staff with three strikeouts in the outing.
- The loss moved NC State to 5-3 on the season.
How it Happened
- In the top of the first with one out on the board, senior Taylor Ensley hit a triple to get NC State in early scoring position.
- With two outs on the board, junior Hannah Church hit an infield single to bring Ensley home and put NC State on the board, 1-0.
- Despite the Owls getting runners into scoring position, the Pack defense was locked in and stopped them from evening the score in the bottom of the first.
- Junior MaKayla Marbury recorded her second hit of the season to lead off the second inning. The double was the 10th of her career.
- With a 2-0 count in the top of the third, junior Hannah Church smashed a solo bomb to left center to push NC State ahead, 3-0. The homer was her second in less than 24 hours for the Wolfpack.
- The Owls gained the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the third after three hits and two errors by the Wolfpack.
- Neither team found an opportunity to score in the fourth, fifth, or sixth inning. The Owls recorded three hits throughout the three innings, but were unable to increase the lead.
- With one out in the top of the seventh, senior Hannah Goodwin hit a single up the middle and freshman Kam Munson entered the game to pinch run. The Wolfpack was unable to get someone into scoring position in attempts to tie things up.
- Sophomore right handed pitcher Carly Maxton threw the complete game for NC State and tallied no earned runs.
