
Pack Falls to #5 Duke in Series Finale

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team fell to fifth-ranked Duke, 5-3, Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Dail Softball Stadium.
The Wolfpack moves to 27-23 overall and 3-18 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

How it Happened
- Duke scored first in the opening frame after a runner scored on a ground out to second base. At the conclusion of the first inning, the Blue Devils held a 1-0 lead.
- Both teams went scoreless through the third inning as neither could get things going offensively. It wasn't until the fourth inning that either team was able to put a hit on the board.
- The Blue Devils added a run to the board in the top of the fourth after a sacrifice bunt allowed a runner to score and pushed the lead to two.
- The Pack took the lead in the bottom of the fifth after plating three. Michele Tarpey led off the inning with a single to left field and Alaina Smith entered to pinch run. With one out on the board, Tori Ensley hit a single through the left side and would advance to second on the throw. Taylor Ensley then hit a ball back to the pitcher and was later thrown out at first – Smith scored and Tori Ensley advanced to third. Amanda Hasler stepped up to the plate with two outs and two on. She was intentionally walked by the Blue Devils and headed to first. With bases loaded, Madison Inscoe recorded a two RBI single to right field that put NC State in front 3-2. She was tagged out at second after trying to advance on a throw.
- The Blue Devils wasted no time regaining the lead in the fifth as a double to center allowed two to score. Duke held a 4-3 lead at the conclusion of the fifth inning.
- Duke plated its fifth and final run in the seventh after a single allowed a runner to score.
- The Pack struggled to find weak spots in the Blue Devils defense throughout the afternoon.
- Sophomore Rylee Wyman pitched all seven innings and recorded five strikeouts. She moves to 7-7 on the season in the circle.
- Five members of the Pack recorded a hit and Inscoe led with two RBI's.
