BLACKSBURG, Va. – NC State women's soccer dropped its ACC road match at Virginia Tech 4-1 on Thursday night at Thompson Field.
With the score tied at 1-1 through the first 60 minutes, Virginia Tech's Taylor Bryan broke the deadlock with the game-winner in the 63rd minute. Less than three minutes earlier, NC State's Alexis Strickland almost recorded her second goal of the night on a one-on-one opportunity against Virginia Tech goalkeeper Alia Skinner. Skinner denied Strickland from close range in the 61st minute to keep the score tied at 1-1.
The Hokies extended their lead to 3-1 when Natalie Mitchell scored from outside the box in the 72nd minute. Samantha DeGuzman recorded the final goal of the night in the 77th minute.
After Virginia Tech's Eden Skyers gave the Hokies a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, NC State responded just over seven minutes later when Strickland finished from close range off a Wolfpack set piece.
Rosalie Olou drew the foul in the 20th minute, allowing Emika Kawagishi to serve a ball into the box for Taylor Chism. Chism then headed Kawagishi's lofted pass across Skinner's goal line to Strickland, who finished with her right foot into the roof of Virginia Tech's net.
Jameese Joseph almost tied the score in the 17th minute when her attempt went just high of the crossbar. Joseph cut inside and fired her second attempt of the game to increase the pressure on the Hokies' back line.
Joseph led NC State with three shots, while Strickland and Jade Bordeleau each tallied two shots apiece.
