Amezcua Earns First Career Top 20 Finish At Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. – Isabel Amezcua fired a career-low 69 (-3) on Tuesday in the final round of the Cougar Classic en route to her first career top 20 finish. She posted a tournament total of 215 (-1) to finish T19th out of 93 players at Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C..
The sophomore led the Wolfpack to a 14th place showing, a one spot improvement from day one of the tournament, out of 17 teams as the team carded a three-over par 291 for a combined 881 (+17).
Arkansas (841, -23) won the team title while Baylor (842, -22) and Florida (851, -13) rounded out the podium. Additionally, Arkansas's Brooke Matthews captured medalist honors with a 191 (-25) for the tournament.
Inja Fric reached new heights on Tuesday as she finished T46th with a tournament total of 220 (+4), which marked a career best for her after turning in a two-over 74 in the final round.
Lauren Olivares Leon, Lea Klimentova and Natalie Armbruester also turned in 74s to round out the Pack's scoring on Tuesday, as they finished T60th, T66th and T73rd, in respective order.
NC State will return to action Sept. 26-28 when it makes the short trip to Browns Summit, N.C., for the Bryan National Intercollegiate.
