LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 5 NC State women's tennis team moved to 13-2 after capturing wins over Texas Tech, 5-2, and Abilene Christian, 7-0, on Saturday. The 2019-20 team is off to the best start in program history in its opening 15 matches.
Texas Tech drops to 2-3 on the season, and Abilene Christian drops to 3-6.
#5 NC STATE vs. TEXAS TECH:
Anna Rogers and Alana Smith, the nation's top-ranked doubles duo, took their third consecutive ranked victory over top-45 opponents, this time over No. 35 Lisa Mays and Nel Miller. In their doubles debut together, Lana Mavor and Liz Norman got off on the right foot, taking a 6-3 decision over Mojana Marinkov and Reagan Collins to clinch the doubles point for the Pack.
Facing its third ranked opponent in the past five matches, No. 14 Jaeda Daniel and Adriana Reami lead 5-4 to Texas Tech's No. 53 Olivia Peet and Margartia Skriabina before the match was abandoned courtesy of a court three victory.
Texas Tech was fast to get on the board in singles as Daniel dropped her first dual match of the season to Miller. Smith countered that match fast with a win over Peet on court one in dominant fashion (6-2, 6-1).
NC State would then rattle off three straight singles wins (Mavor, Norman, Rogers), each in straight sets, to bring the score to 5-1.
The Red Raiders would add one more singles point to their resume as Skriabina took court three over No. 30 Reami to close out the match.
#5 NC STATE vs. ABILENE CHRISTIAN
The same two doubles duos from the opening match of the doubleheader brought in the doubles point in the second leg.
NC State rattled off six straight-set wins in singles to complete the sweep against Abilene Christian.
Smith, Rogers, Norman and Mavor posted perfect days in singles.
