The Pack starts ACC Play 2-0
CHESTNUT Hill, Mass. – The 23rd-ranked NC State women's tennis team defeated 36th-ranked Boston College, 5-2, on Sunday. The Pack is 2-0 in ACC play for the first time in 20 seasons.
The Pack moves to 10-2 (2-0) and the Eagles drop to 9-3 (1-3) on the season.
Senior Bianca Moldovan clinched the match for the Pack with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over Laura Lopez.
No. 25 Anna Rogers put the Pack up 3-1 with a hard-fought, three-set victory over No. 101 Yufei Long. With the victory, Rogers has collected 10 ranked singles wins this season.
Adriana Reami's impressive 6-0, 6-2 victory claimed the first singles point of the day. She extended her singles win streak to eight.
In doubles, No. 10 Rogers and Alana Smith jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, as did Moldovan and Liz Norman. The Pack never looked back and captured its ninth doubles point of the season.
Straight from the Pack: Head Coach Simon Earnshaw
"We knew coming in that today's match would be a real test for us against a very strong Boston College team that has been playing some great tennis this spring. Yesterday was a bit crazy with travel and two practices, but the girls came through and did everything we asked of them. That really helped us transition to the conditions here. Today we made a much improved start in doubles-- our energy and direction were where they needed to be. That point helped us tremendously in the early singles matches, especially because outside of Adriana, we were really under pressure at that stage in the match.
"We managed to hang around, and then the key segment was Liz splitting at 4, Amanda closing out her first set, and most importantly, Anna coming back from being down 2-5 in the third set to survive two match points at 4-6 in the breaker to prevail. She stuck to aggressive, disciplined tennis, and came out on top. In some ways, the final score flatters us, but this was an extremely close match. We once again found ways to win on the road, which says a lot about our character. Coming into this season, that was something we emphaszied. We have experience and it really showed today. Go Pack!"
