
Softball Drops 5-3 Decision With Liberty

RALEIGH - The NC State softball team dropped a 5-3 decision with Liberty on Wednesday evening at Dail Stadium.
The Wolfpack moves to 12-21 (6-3 ACC) and the Flames improve to 19-15 (5-1 Big South) on the season.
Game Rewind
-Both teams were kept at bay in the first two innings, and Liberty took a 4-0 lead in the third on Amber Bishop's solo home run to right field and Emily Sweat's three-run homer to right center.
-The Pack got on the board in the fifth inning, as Cheyenne Balzer led off the frame with a home run to right center - her fifth of the season. Brittany Nimmo plated another run after scoring on a failed pickoff attempt to cut the deficit to two.
-Molly Hutchison led off the sixth with her sixth home run of the season to left field, giving the Pack its third run of the contest.
-In the final inning Tori Zavodny scored on Sarah Robertson's single to left field. She started the threat with a double to left field and advancing to third on Amber Bishop's fly out to right field.
-Peyton Silverman pitched her 14th complete game of the season, only walking one batter in the matchup.
-Hutchison led the team at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance.
-NC State turned two double plays in the game. Alyssa Compton fielded the first one catching a line out and tagging second base, and Silverman caught a popped up bunt and threw to Balzer at first base to tag the runner coming back. The team now holds 13 on the season.
On Deck
NC State will travel Tennessee this weekend for a three-game series. Friday's matchup is set for a 6 p.m. start, while Saturday's contest is slated for 4 p.m. and first pitch Sunday is 12 p.m. at the Sherri Parker Lee Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn.
